Business Address/Primary Location of Work: Iqbal Food’s head office located at 6 William Morgan Drive, Toronto, ON, M4H 1E5, with occasional travel to Iqbal Foods’ supermarket and warehouse locations as well as local supplier distribution centers across the Greater Toronto Area as needed.

Nature of Employment: Permanent Full-Time

Hours: 40 hours per week

Salary: $124,800 per year (approximately $60.00 per hour)

Benefits: 4% Vacation Pay

Job Summary:

Iqbal Foods is seeking two (2) experienced Procurement Managers to lead the strategic direction of procurement across its supermarket chain. These roles go beyond day-to-day purchasing for products and materials ordered — focusing instead on developing and executing long-term sourcing strategies, overseeing supply chain logistics, establishing payment terms, managing supplier relationships and ultimately ensuring the efficient procurement of high-quality products and materials that align with our company’s growth goals and evolving customer needs.

Based at our corporate head office, the Procurement Managers will identify, evaluate, and build strong partnerships with both local and international suppliers—ensuring a diverse, reliable, and sustainable supply chain. They will collaborate closely with internal teams across the organization—including finance, purchasing, logistics, store department managers, and quality assurance—to optimize procurement processes, enhance inventory planning, and improve supplier performance, all with the aim of driving operational efficiency and profitability.

Job Responsibilities:

• Develop and execute strategic long-term procurement plans to support Iqbal Food’s growth objectives, cost control, risk mitigation, and compliance with regulatory, food safety, halal, and sourcing standards;
• Oversee the full procurement lifecycle including demand forecasting, supplier sourcing, onboarding, contract negotiations, vendor performance evaluation, and resolution of supplier issues—ensuring a reliable, diverse, and cost-effective supply base;
• Plan, manage, and evaluate procurement platforms (e.g., e-sourcing, supplier portals), and work with IT department to identify and integrate third-party solutions that enhance demand forecasting, automation, and system-wide efficiency;
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders—including finance, purchasing, merchandising, logistics, and category management—to align procurement with operational goals, product specifications, promotional plans, and inventory strategies;
• Identify and onboard new suppliers while exploring emerging market trends and sourcing opportunities, driving supplier diversification, enhancing product variety, and ensuring a resilient, cost-effective, and competitive supply of products for Iqbal Food’s supermarkets;
• Develop supplier evaluation frameworks and identify frameworks related to monitoring delivery timelines, collection of product samples, quality standards, pricing compliance, and overall sourcing reliability;
• Lead and oversee high-value contract negotiations, securing favorable pricing, delivery terms, and agreements that protect the organization’s operational integrity and financial interests;
• Manage and resolve complex supplier claims and disputes, ensuring compliance with regulations and standards, minimizing risk, and maintaining strong supplier relationships;
• Oversee recruitment, training, and professional development strategies for staff involved in all cycles of procurement – including sourcing, purchasing, and logistics, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and talent development priorities;
• Collaborate with finance and purchasing teams to approve of purchasing budgets, monitor spending trends, and contribute to cost-control initiatives and profitability targets;
• Work with the Purchasing, Merchandising, and Category Management teams to ensure strategic procurement strategies are effectively translated into day-to-day store-level execution, supporting product availability, pricing strategies, and promotional initiatives;
• Participate in the development of product and equipment specifications, and collaborate in cross-functional sourcing initiatives for substitute or new products; and
• Other duties as required, in support of Iqbal Food’s strategic corporate procurement objectives.

Minimum Skills Requirements:

• Completion of high school is required;
• A post-secondary degree or diploma in business administration, economics, commerce or a related field is an asset, but not required;
• At least four (4) years of prior experience in a related merchandise procurement, purchasing position or sourcing role(s);
• Experience working in retail or grocery environments will be considered a strong asset, but is not required;
• Familiarity with international sourcing and halal certification standards is preferred, but not required;
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment;
• Strong organizational, leadership, communication and time management skills.
