Job Duties:
The Grow Master manages and leads staff of assistant growers, production staff and lab staff engaged in the preparation, growing, care and maintenance of the company’s mushroom products that are produced. Directs the application of technical procedures, timing and metering devices that control frequency, amount and type of nutrient applications; regulate humidity, ventilation, temperature and amount of light.
As the Grow Master, you’ll ensure we grow different species properly, and you’ll identify and resolve
issues with mushrooms and be responsible for the required budgets. You should have a hands-on
approach with good knowledge of mushroom spore genetics and growing requirements.
Your ultimate goal will be to ensure we satisfy our customers requirements with full spectrum, high-quality nutraceutical mushroom products and develop new strains and blends that the business requires.
Oversee mushroom crops and facilities
Apply indoor farming methods that increase our yields
Inspect the quality of each batch of mushrooms grown, with a continuous improvement approach
across each learning opportunity.
Lead maintenance and cleaning activities to prevent contaminations
Diagnose and resolve mushroom health issues
Monitors growing conditions and oversees changes in humidity, moisture and temperature and
cultivation procedures to ensure conformance with quality control standards.
Monitors mushroom development to ascertain conditions such as texture, size and the existence
of pests or disease; removing substandard or blocks to maintain quality standards.
Develops growing procedures for new species in the product line and new cultivation techniques.
Ensure compliance with TruCelium’s standard operating procedures for growing
Maintains records of growing techniques and production; reviews records and reports to identify
trends and to forecast future space and production needs.
Maximize space utilization based on production reports and inoculation schedules.
Manage inventory and budgets related to mushroom production
Supervise, coach and train employees on growing operations
Maintains growing schedules and staff work assignments to meet production plans.
Maintains a current knowledge of growing techniques and technologies and awareness of new
state of the art equipment for input into equipment and facilities upgrades.
Provides pesticide and safety training to all employees and maintenance of records as required
by Federal or State regulations.
Discusses mushroom growing activities with management personnel to plan for growing activities
that are consistent with planned production schedules.
Assists the Production Manager with other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Proven experience as a grower, preferably at a large scale, with some management experience
Knowledge of the entire mushroom growth cycle and requirements
Familiarity with environment protection practices
Understanding of pest and disease management techniques
Willingness to continue learning about mycology and mushroom farming, and stay on top of
current and future trends
Problem-solving aptitude
Leadership and people management skills
Ability to meet the physical demands of the job
Degree in Mycology, Biology, Agriculture, Horticulture or relevant field is a plus
Follow all company policies and procedures as well as local, provincial and federal employment
laws
Ability to calculate figures amounts, proportions, percentages and volume in relation to
temperature, humidity, water and light
Ability to use a PC and interpret/produce production reports.
Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional
journals and technical procedures.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management and from
employees.
Ability to maintain comprehensive records of essential growing procedures, attributes and results.
Ability to define and solve problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
necessary to identify a wide variety of conditions such as plant diseases, existence of insects,
etc.
Have the knowledge and ability to identify major mushroom groups and be aware of their culture
and growth traits.
Adaptability and multi‐tasking; experience working in a fast moving environment.
Fosters positive working relationships.
Ability to provide work direction and leadership to staff.
Provide a team atmosphere to strive for a common goal of high product quality and cooperation
and compatibility with peers, supervisors, and management
Ability to work in conditions typically found in a greenhouse with high humidity and varying
temperatures.
Ability to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently and 10 pounds constantly in
order to lift and move product.
Ability to balance, reach and grasp while climbing on a step stool and/or ladder. Ability to crouch,
grasp, and lift product above shoulders in order to lift product from the floor properly.
