Job Description
As a Sanitation Operator at Greenhouse, you are a critical member of the sanitation team, ensuring that our production facility remains food-safe and ready for daily operations. Your role involves performing specific sanitation tasks, including operating Clean-in-Place (CIP) systems, assembling and disassembling equipment for cleaning, and handling cleaning chemicals in compliance with safety standards.
By following established procedures, maintaining high sanitation standards, and adhering to quality protocols, you play a vital role in delivering products that meet Greenhouse’s mission of offering the highest-quality plant-based nutrition.

Responsibilities
Facility and Equipment Cleaning
- Clean, scrub, and sanitize equipment, utensils, tanks, sinks, drains, floors, walls, ceilings, and other facility components to maintain food safety readiness.
- Operate CIP and Clean-Out-of-Place (COP) systems effectively and safely.
- Handle cleaning chemicals responsibly, including preparation, storage, and usage, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
Documentation and Reporting
- Complete cleaning checklists, sanitation logs, and chemical concentration records accurately.
- Document cleaning cycles, supplies used, and maintain compliance with sanitation standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Collect samples for Quality Assurance testing as required.
Collaboration and Issue Resolution
- Take direction from the Sanitation Leader and QA team to resolve sanitation-related issues promptly.
- Assist production staff with large cleaning projects when necessary.
- Analyze and resolve sanitation problems, supporting teammates in overcoming challenges.
Regulatory Compliance and Safety
- Adhere to food safety, quality system requirements, and regulatory standards, including HACCP, GMP, WHMIS, and SQF protocols.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as provided, in compliance with OSHA regulations.
- Understand food safety risks within the manufacturing process and escalate issues to leadership when needed.

Required Skills & Expertise
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with cleaning processes, cleaning chemistry, and CIP/COP systems. Knowledge of HACCP, GMP, WHMIS, and food safety regulations.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to analyze and resolve sanitation problems effectively.
- Safety Awareness: Ability to work safely with strong chemicals and follow regulatory safety requirements.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift objects up to 25 kg and work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
- Communication and Organization: Effective verbal and listening skills, with strong planning and time management abilities.
- Technical Aptitude: Ability to read electrical schematics, blueprints, and other technical diagrams is an asset.
- Certification: Forklift driving/safety training certification is preferred.
