Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Japanese Restaurant Manager to lead our team and oversee daily operations at our busy Japanese dining establishment. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a solid background in Japanese cuisine or restaurant operations, and a passion for delivering authentic and exceptional guest experiences. This role includes supervising staff, supporting sushi bar and kitchen operations, ensuring food safety and hygiene standards, and maintaining high-quality service in a warm, organized, and culturally respectful environment. Previous experience in Japanese restaurants, hospitality, or hotel environments is highly valued, along with familiarity with sushi preparation, hot kitchen operations, POS systems such as Micros POS, and food handling procedures.
Responsibilities
Supervise daily operations of the restaurant, sushi bar, and kitchen to ensure smooth service and excellent guest experience.
Lead, train, schedule, and motivate team members including servers, kitchen staff, and sushi chefs.
Oversee food preparation and presentation for Japanese cuisine including sushi, sashimi, hot dishes, ramen, and donburi items.
Ensure food safety, sanitation, and handling standards are consistently followed in accordance with health regulations.
Manage POS transactions and cash handling procedures using Micros POS or similar systems.
Maintain a welcoming, courteous, and culturally attentive dining environment for guests.
Monitor inventory of seafood, produce, rice, sauces, and other key Japanese ingredients; coordinate purchasing and supplier relationships.
Support smooth communication between front-of-house and back-of-house teams.
Handle guest inquiries, concerns, and feedback promptly and professionally.
Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and performance evaluation of staff members.
Ensure overall cleanliness, organization, and safety throughout the restaurant.
Requirements
Proven experience in restaurant management or hospitality leadership roles; supervisory experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of Japanese restaurant operations, including sushi bar workflow, kitchen processes, serving standards, and food safety regulations.
Familiarity with POS systems such as Micros POS; cash handling experience is essential.
Excellent customer service and leadership abilities with a focus on teamwork and service quality.
Experience in Japanese cuisine, kitchen operations, or sushi restaurant environments is highly desirable.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
Strong communication skills, professionalism, and cultural awareness in all interactions.
Previous hotel, izakaya, or café/barista experience is an asset but not required.
