Job description:

Full-time seasonal position, generally from April to December.

Primary business activity is to grow, harvest and sell the highest quality plant material, like sod, trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals and more. Our business objective is to provide the highest quality horticultural products and services to our clients.

The schedule is based on weather and business volume, but workers will work a minimum of 40 hours a week, with Sundays off. Overtime provided after 8 hours a day and/or 44 hours a week.

Duties include sod farming and nursery work. Blue Grass has 20 acres of trees, 3 acres of shrubs, and 20,000 sq. ft. of greenhouses full of annuals, perennials and tropical plants. We also have upwards of 10 loads of sod per day that arrive at our location.

The job involves physical labour of planting, digging, bur-lapping of trees and shrubs. Maintenance of trees and shrubs by pruning, watering, mulching, raking and levelling. Maintain sod, move and load orders. Water and tend to gardens, lawn areas and weeding. Clean and maintain work areas. Report signs of insect or disease damage on plants. Potting and re-potting plants.

Working conditions are outside in all weather conditions. It is a fast-paced environment, physically demanding with repetitive tasks, standing for extended periods, handling heavy loads, bending, crouching, kneeling, and attention to detail. Handling up to 45kg (100lbs).

·      Steel-toed footwear and gloves are required

·      No experience or skills required, as training will be provided on the job.

·      Public transportation is not available.

Wage: $18.50 per hour plus overtime
