Education
- No degree, certificate, or diploma is required.
Experience
- Previous experience in livestock farming or cattle ranching is considered an asset.
Work Location
- This position requires on-site work at the farm. Remote work is not available.
Work Environment
- Beef cattle ranching and farming, including feedlot operations
- Outdoor work
- Exposure to noise and livestock-related odours
- Direct contact with livestock
- Work in varying weather conditions
- Work in potentially dirty or muddy conditions
Work Setting
- Remote rural location
- Room and board provided
Job Duties
- Handle and care for cattle and other livestock.
- Mark livestock for identification and ownership purposes.
- Monitor and assist with the calving process.
- Observe livestock health and report any signs of illness, injury, or abnormal behaviour.
- Feed and tend to cattle and other livestock according to established feeding schedules.
- Prepare clean, dry, and safe areas for cows during the calving process.
- Monitor feed supplies and maintain records of current feed inventory.
- Assist with the weaning of calves.
- Assist with general livestock care and daily farm operations.
- Assist with implementing farm safety and biosecurity procedures.
- Operate, clean, and perform routine maintenance on farm machinery and equipment.
- Clean and maintain stables, barns, barnyards, pens, and other livestock areas.
- Complete and maintain daily farm records, logs, and other required documentation.
Additional Information
Transportation/Travel
- Public transportation is not available. Employees must be able to arrange transportation to and from the remote work location.
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
- Ability to work independently and follow instructions.
- Physically demanding work.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks.
- Ability to alternate between sitting, standing, and walking.
- Ability to bend, crouch, kneel, and perform other physical tasks required for livestock care.
