F/T Speciality Chef/Head Chef (Thai Food) (8018 Mons Road, Whistler)

 

Barn Nork Restaurant Ltd. dba Barn Nork Aharn Thai is seeking a fulltime Speciality Chef/Head Chef (Thai Food) at its Whistler location.

Job Description/Duties:

  • Direct, prepare and supervise cooking and other food preparation activities on a daily basis;
  • Communicate the daily plan of service each day;
  • Prepare and cook a variety of Thai cuisine dishes, including sauces and curry bases;
  • Balance productivity without compromising product quality;
  • Monitor and oversee sanitation practices to ensure the standards of cleanliness in the kitchen are always met by employees;
  • Analyze recipes and make menu changes when necessary to keep customers happy and to minimize overhead costs when possible;
  • Coordinate all food purchasing, budgeting and planning operations with Restaurant Managers/Owners/Executive Chefs;
  • Meet with customers as needed to arrange menu items and negotiate prices for catering, banquets and other special occasions;
  • Inspect cooking equipment, supplies, work areas and ingredients to ensure that all are in accordance with company health and safety guidelines;
  • Oversee building and equipment maintenance and oversee the storeroom and maintain organization of all products/ingredients for monthly/quarterly/yearly inventories;
  • Determine when additional help is needed to maintain satisfactory service, then recruit, interview and hire cooks and kitchen workers when needed, by effectively communicating with Restaurant Managers/Owners/Executive Chefs;
  • Ensure high level of presentation of all dishes served;
  • Ensure all food and other items are stored properly and efficiently;
  • Maintain high quality standard of all ingredients;
  • Close down dish area / kitchen at end of the night as well as oversee and direct the kitchen team in closing the restaurant each night;
  • Instruct and oversee the training of cooks in the preparation and technique of Thai cuisine dishes, cooking and presentation of appetizers, especially with wok;
  • Initiate and/or positively participate in new menu/special seasonal menu items creation in our team;
  • Foster a climate of cooperation and respect within the team

 

Skills and Qualification Requirements:

  • Completion of a college or other program in cooking
  • 3 years of working experience of cooking Thai cuisine dishes in commercial kitchen
  • Ability to do all the above-mentioned duties in a high volume, high quality culinary environment
  • Supervising experience in Food Industry is a strong asset
  • Leadership skills
  • Excellent knife skills
  • Ability to lift 40 to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to work weekends & holidays
  • A keen eye for detail and prevision
  • An interest in development & growth of culinary skills/creativity
  • Positive, friendly & calm disposition/mind-set
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member

 

Language:

  • Communication skills in English

 

Compensation:

  • $36.60/hour, 30-40hrs/week, 4% vacation pay, extended health and dental

 

Work Location: 8018 Mons Road, Whistler, BC V8E1K6

 

The position is focused on taking responsibility for daily operations and executing all food production. A keen eye for monitoring quality control and maintaining the high level of authentic Thai food Barn Nork is known for is essential.
