JOB DESCRIPTION
Rock Ridge Dairy is Western Canada’s largest goat milk processing facility situated in rural Ponoka Alberta. We produce quality goat milk and Organic Jersey milk products and are now and we are seeking a mature, experienced and responsible individual for a position as cheese maker.
Title: CHEESE MAKER : We are looking to fill 2 Positions.
PLEASE NOTE: The position of cheese maker requires a technical diploma, apprenticeship and/or hands on work experience making cheese in an industrial setting of at least two years. Please do not apply for this job unless you have these qualifications or equivalent work experience. This is NOT a farm related position.
This position will primarily focus on cheese making and operation of the HTST plant CIP systems. However duties would be increased over time to include:
1. Cheese Making (Feta, Chevre and Cheddar Cheese)
2. Pasteurization, running the HTST and CIP
3. Bottling and packaging of milk for transport to the retail outlets.
4. Packaging of cheese
5. Laboratory analysis of milk for antibiotic detection, determination of milk quality, presence of coliforms or E coli. , standard plate counts of raw milk and pasteurized product as well as shelf life studies.
6. Record Keeping
7. Machinery assembly and disassembly
8. Sanitation and Clean up
9. Loading and unloading delivery trucks
10. General upkeep and maintenance
Working approximately 40-44 hours per week. Overtime after 44 hours per week based on our work place averaging agreement for the month. Monday- Friday. Saturday and Sundays are normally Off but Sat morning cheese packing may be needed periodically.
Night shifts may be required for this position or alternatively early morning shifts may also be required. (ie 4-5am start time ) Starting wages are dependent on previous work experience. Typically wages for this position range from a starting wage of $25.00 per hour for a person with experience but is flexible and increases as experience in the industry increases.
Individuals will need to be reliably, reasonably physically fit for this job, have great attention for detail, be able to work both independently and in a team setting, have problem solving capabilities and be able to handle situations as they arise in a calm and collected manner.
The job fall under Noc 94140. Foreign workers may be considered only if no Canadians meet the required qualifications. Youth, Seniors, Aboriginals, Visible minorities and New Comers to Canada are welcome to apply if they have the required qualifications.
Shared housing on site is available for single individuals at a rate of $600.00 per month which includes utilities. Assistance relocating for travel and to find suitable alternative housing in nearby towns for families or those choosing to live off the worksite is also available.
