Position: Cook (Full-time)

Hourly Wage: CAD $22.50 per hour

Work Hours: 30-40 hours per week

Work location: Thunder Bay, ON, P7B 3C2

Job Position Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Cook to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food and a commitment to providing high-quality meals in a Japanese Food Restaurant environment. As a Cook, you will be responsible for preparing delicious dishes, ensuring food safety standards are met, and contributing to a positive dining experience for our guests.

Duties:

• Prepare and cook menu items according to established recipes and standards.

• Assist in meal preparation, including chopping, slicing, and seasoning ingredients.
• Prepare and assemble various sushi rolls.
• Proficient knife skills and proper knowledge of handling and preparing raw fish.
• Plate sushi rolls and sashimi.
• Determine size of food portion.
• Cook menu items either by simmering, grilling, steaming, frying or raw.
• Ensure all food handling practices comply with health and safety regulations.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area, including workstations and equipment.
• Monitor food inventory levels and assist with ordering supplies as needed.
• Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure timely service during peak hours.
• Participate in menu planning and development by suggesting new dishes or improvements.
• Adhere to food safety protocols to prevent contamination and ensure quality.

Experience:

• Previous experience in a kitchen or food service environment is preferred.

• Knowledge of food handling practices and food safety regulations is essential.
• Familiarity with Japanese food preparation techniques and various cooking methods.
• Previous experience with Japanese cuisine is an asset.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment while maintaining individual responsibilities.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in food presentation and preparation.
• A passion for cooking and the ability to adapt to changing menus or dietary restrictions.
