Job Duties:

• Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine work requirements
• Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools
• Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials
• Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems
• Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, mouldings and hardware
• Schedule and co-ordinate work on sites
• Instruct apprentices
• Maintain, repair and renovate residences and wooden structures in mills, mines, hospitals, industrial plants and other establishments

Employment Requirements:

• Completion of a college, CEGEP, or other non-university certificate or diploma (1–2 years) in general engineering, construction, carpentry, or a related field
• 1 to less than 2 years of hands-on experience in residential and/or commercial construction, renovation, maintenance, or repair work
• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, building codes, and safety standards
• Experience using hand tools and basic construction equipment
• Ability to perform structural work, installations, and finishing tasks including framing, flooring, doors, windows, and renovations
• Physically capable of handling heavy loads, bending, crouching, kneeling, and working in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as part of a team
• Willingness to travel to various job sites as required
• Must own steel-toed safety boots
• Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality workmanship and client satisfaction
• Reliable, punctual, and a team player with effective interpersonal skills
