Position: Medical laboratory technician
Duration/Type: Full Time
Location: 55 Dusk Dr #1, Brampton, ON L6Y 5Z6
Salary: $23.50 per hour–The gross salary paid is subject to applicable Federal and Provincial income taxes and other statutory deductions.
Other benefits: None other than employer CPP and EI contributions
Vacation: 4 % of the gross salary
Hours of Work: 32-40 hours a week
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Conduct routine medical laboratory tests and set up, clean and maintain medical laboratory equipment
• Collect blood and urine samples and prepare them for testing
• Conduct routine laboratory tests such as: Processing urine (urinalysis), Streptococcal swab testing, Pregnancy test (urine sample)
• Labelling, and logging specimens’ samples including date and time of collection and prepare for testing
• Taking patient’s vital signs
• Set-up procedural preparation in each doctor’s room
• Performing ECG
• Autoclaving instruments
• Centrifuging blood samples with its recommended speed and time
• Perform quality assurance of testing techniques
• Maintain quality results verifying equipment function through routine equipment maintenance and testing procedures, monitoring quality control measures and protocols.
• Serves as technical resource by participating in staff training
• Maintain patient confidence by keeping laboratory information confidential.
Education and Experience Requirements
• Completion of a college level program in medical laboratory science or related discipline is required
• Minimum one-year experience as a technician in a medical laboratory environment is required
• Certification by the OSMT/MLPAO is desired
• Practical knowledge of common lab equipment and patient coordination software such as tracker is required
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
