Machine Operator (metalworking)

        Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate

                           or equivalent experience

         Experience: 1 to less than 7 months

         Specific Skills:

Select and transport material to work area manually or using crane or hoist; Remove metal pieces from furnace when colour or metal indicates proper forging temperature; Read and interpret specifications or follow verbal instructions; Position and adjust dies on anvil of forging machinery; Position heated or cooled metal pieces on die of press or other forging machinery; Place metal pieces in furnace; Operate presses or other forging machines to perform hot or cold forging to shape or form metal; Operate machines or equipment which weld, solder, bolt, screw or rivet metal parts together; Operate gas or oil fired furnace to heat metal to proper temperatures prior to forging; Clean and lubricate machinery and equipment; Check products for correct shapes, dimensions and other specifications; Lay out, set up and operate one or more light or heavy metalworking machines; Troubleshoot, perform corrective action or minor repairs; Document work completed; Build staging or erect scaffolding for heavy metalworking jobs; Cut, bend, roll, ream, punch, drill, weld or otherwise shape and form metal stock into parts or products

 

Metal Forming or Shaping Operations Experience:

 

Straightening; Forming; Flattening; Drawing; Cutting machine; Bending; Metal twisting
