Job Description:
Personal Support Workers/ Home Support provide care and companionship for seniors, persons with disabilities and convalescent clients. Care is provided within the client’s residence.

Skills Requirements:
- Observe and evaluate the client’s or family’s home, personal situation and clients and family care plan to determine if any need for change in the personal support care plan is required
- Contributes to the development of the personal support care plan under the direction of Personal Support Program Manager
- Implement changes to the care plan under the guidance of the Manager for safety, liability, and financial reasons
- Report verbally to the immediate supervisor or Personal Support Program Manager of any changes made in a client’s or family’s personal support care plan
- Perform personal tasks; light cleaning, preparation of nutritious meals, care of clothes, shopping for the client as required, and monitoring and maintaining household safety
- Function and report in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety legislation, regulations, and VON policies and procedures
- Launder clothing and household linens
- Assist clients with bathing and other aspects of personal hygiene
- Administer bedside and personal care
- Administer medications
- Assist clients with water (i.e. pool)
- Assist in regular exercise, e. g. walk
- Assume full responsibility for household (in absence of householder)
- Collect specimens
- Demonstrate infant care to new parents
- Feed or assist in feeding
- Change non-sterile dressings
- Shop for food and household supplies
- Provide personal care and companionship
- Plan therapeutic diets and menus
- Perform light housekeeping duties
- Mend clothes and linens
- Prepare and serve nutritious meals

Language:
English
Education:
College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years
Experience:
7 months to less than 1 year
Credentials (certificates, licenses, memberships, courses, etc.)
Personal Support Worker Certificate, CPR Certificate, First Aid Certificate
