Truck driver job requirements:
Languages: English
On the road job: work locations may vary. Frequent or constant travel is required from the employee
Education: secondary (high) school graduation certificate
Experience: 3 years to less than 5 years
Weight handling: up to 23kg (50lbs)
Work setting: various locations
Own tools/equipment: cellular phone, hard hat, steel-toed boots
Personal suitability: efficient interpersonal skills, excellent oral communication, excellent written communication, flexibility, judgment, organized, reliability, team player
Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses: Air Brakes Endorsement, Class 3/3F/DF Licence (trailer truck, vehicles with more than 3 axles), Class 5/5F/G Licence (cars, small trucks and other 2-axle vehicles), S-100 basic fire suppression and safety training, Working at heights training, Air Brake (Z) Endorsement, CPR Certificate, Driver's License (Class 3 or D), First Aid Certificate, Forklift Operator Certification, Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Certificate, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate
Type of trucking and equipment: Roll-off truck, dump truck, flatbed truck
Transportation/travel experience: local, provincial/territorial, short-haul
Communication systems experience: operate GPS (Global Positioning System) and other navigation equipment
Documentation knowledge: accident or incident reports, dangerous goods occurrence reports, driver logbook, inspection report (pre-trip, enroute, post-trip), maintenance and repair reports, trip reports
Tasks: mountain driving experience, arrange travel, related itineraries and make reservations, drive lighter, special purpose trucks, load and unload goods, operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials, oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment, perform brake adjustments, perform emergency roadside repairs, perform pre-trip, enroute and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle, perform preventative maintenance, receive and relay information to central dispatch, record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption, tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo, transport and handle dangerous goods
Security and safety: basic security clearance, bondable, criminal record check, driver's validity licence check, driving record check (abstract), drug test, medical exam
Transportation/travel information: drive manual transmission vehicle, own transportation, own vehicle, travel expenses paid by employer, valid driver's license, willing to travel for extended periods
Work conditions and physical capabilities: attention to detail, handling heavy loads, large workloads, physically demanding, repetitive tasks, sitting
