Lead Statement:

A traditional Chinese medicine practitioner is a trained professional who uses old Chinese medical practices to diagnose and treat a wide range of health problems. These techniques often include herbal remedies, acupuncture, and other forms of holistic healing, and are based on the belief that the body's natural balance can be restored through the use of these methods.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose patients’ illnesses, physiological conditions, and injuries using the principles of traditional Chinese medicine;
  • Educating patients about healthy lifestyle habits and the principles of traditional Chinese medicine including the risks and benefits of therapy;
  • Prescribe and deliver treatments including acupuncture, Gua Sha, cupping therapy, acupressure, etc.;
  • Prescribe and deliver treatments with raw or granulated herbs, other medications, or nutritional supplements;
  • May offer home care advice and details on life therapies including Chinese food remedy recipes (Shi Liao);
  • Collaborating with other healthcare providers such as physicians, physiotherapists, and psychologists to ensure the best possible care for patients;
  • Adhering to ethical standards and legal regulations related to the practice of traditional Chinese medicine;
  • Staying up-to-date on the latest research and developments in traditional Chinese medicine.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Completion of a four-to-five-year traditional Chinese medicine diploma program at a private institute or recognized medical school abroad;
  • Completion of the approved PCE TCM Practitioner examination with The College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of BC;
  • Ability to speak and understand both English and Chinese (Mandarin and/or Cantonese);
  • Have a strong sense of responsibility;
  • Preferably with relevant experience working as a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner
