Sous Chef Responsibilities:

  • Full-time, salaried, Culinary management position, assisting in kitchen operations reporting directly to the Chef de Cuisine
  • Manages daily kitchen and culinary program execution with excellence including by not limited to;
  • Estimate amount and costs of supplies and food items
  • Estimate labour costs
  • Maintain records of food costs, consumption, sales and inventory
  • Analyze operating costs and other data
  • Demonstrate new cooking techniques and new equipment to cooking staff
  • Supervise activities of specialist chefs, chefs, cooks and other kitchen workers
  • Instruct cooks in preparation, cooking, garnishing and presentation of food
  • Prepare and cook complete meals and specialty foods for events such as banquets
  • Supervise cooks and other kitchen staff
  • Prepare and cook food on a regular basis, or for special guests or functions
  • Prepare and cook meals or specialty foods
  • Requisition food and kitchen supplies
  • Arrange for equipment purchases and repairs
  • Prepare dishes for customers with food allergies or intolerances
  • Recruit and hire staff
  • Supervise activities of sous-chefs, specialist chefs, chefs and cooks
  • Train staff in preparation, cooking and handling of food
  • Leading/instructing individuals
  • Monitor daily kitchen cleanliness attacking any repair & maintenance concerns with urgency
  • Driving ongoing culinary team learning through regular engagement with our online learning system

Sous Chef Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year of past Sous Chef or Kitchen Supervisory experience required in a full-service restaurant environment
  • Minimum 1 year of past Cooking Experience
  • Strong organization and communication skills
  • Winning mindset and strong work ethic
  • Fanatical attention to detail
  • Strong leadership skills and team mentality
  • Guest focused approach
  • Desire to learn and grow culinary career
  • May have or are working towards Red Seal certification
  • May have Safe Food Handling certificate

Sous Chef Earnings & Perks:

  • $50,000 – $55,000 annual salary
