Cloverdale United Church is looking for an Intercultural Ministry Planning Officer in a thriving church. As a growing congregation with a changing demographic, we are looking for an enthusiastic, creative, relationship oriented individual to actively grow and nurture the integration of people new to Canada and the cultural harmonization of our church family.  The objective of this position is to support and nurture intercultural connections within our congregation and to help those new to Canada to find a place of belonging in our congregation.

 

Our Church Name: Cloverdale Pastoral Charge (Cloverdale United Church)

Position: Intercultural Ministry Planning Officer, Full time, Permanent

Wage Rate: $25 per hour / 30 Hours per week / 4% vacation fee

Benefit: Dental and Extended Health after 3 month employment

Our Church Location: 17575 58A Ave, Surrey BC Canada V3S 1N1

Start date: we welcome anyone who can work as soon as possible

 

Role Responsibilities – Intercultural Ministry Planning Officer

-Welcomes and recruits adults who are new to Canada to participate in the life of our congregation and our English Language Learner programs

-Facilitates social connection and friendship between the existing congregation and newcomers in order to cultivate cultural harmonization and deepen feelings of belonging in our faith family

-Encourages those who are new to Canada to become part of the church community

-Coordinates intercultural programs including recruiting volunteers under the oversight of the Lead Minister

-Coordinates necessary child care and/or programs to facilitate adult participation

-Shares in providing intercultural activities

-Works alongside the Children & Youth Leader to ensure that children’s programs, including Sunday morning, support cultural harmonization

-Coordinates church activities (lunches, games, celebrations) on a quarterly basis to foster intercultural relationships

 

Qualifications:

– 2 years of clerical or secretarial work experience related to office administration

– High School graduation or higher

– Has a working knowledge (written and spoken) of English languages

– Actively exhibits their Christian Faith

– Has a passion and enthusiasm for intercultural connection and belonging

– Thrives in a team environment and collaborates and consults with others

– Communicates clearly, including appropriate computer skills and social media usage

– Models a welcoming and inclusive approach to diversity and develops personal relationships with people of all ages

– Qualities that would be an asset include creativity, self-motivation, organization skills and cultural sensitivity
