The Employer and Job Position: The employer is the head of a Zurich-based small business family with unique needs. The employer needs to hire a caregiver to support an elderly and infirm 83 years old family member suffering from aged-related health issues such as arthritis, osteoporosis, vision and hearing loss, and cognitive problems. The family is vegetarian who strictly abide by the tenets of Bhuriwale spiritual faith. The employer is looking for a caring, enthusiastic caregiver who can provide culturally and spiritually sensitive & quality in-home care and support with compassion and empathy.

Job duties:

The successful candidate will perform the following duties to support a healthy lifestyle of an older person (83 years old):

• Plan and prepare healthy vegetarian meals suitable for the needs of the elderly.
• Provide companionship and care for her.
• Maintain hygiene, sanitization, cleanness to ensure a necessary healthy environment.
• Take precautions needed to keep elderly person safe during the COVID-19 situation.
• Provide bedside and personal care such as personal hygiene, medication reminder, and escort to medical appointments when required.
• Perform general housekeeping duties like making beds, laundry, and helping in the kitchen.
• Shop for food and household supplies when required.
• Assist in regular exercise regimes appropriate for elderly, for example, accompanying for evening walks in summer and assisting with ‘in-house’ age-appropriate physical exercises during winters.
• Occasionally coordinate with pharmacy and doctor’s office for prescription and appointments.
• Treat and care for elderly and her property with dignity and respect.
• Occasionally travel with mother when required for health and other compelling reasons (the employer will cover relevant travel costs).

Requirements:

• Previous 1-year demonstrable experience to care for elderly persons.
• Completion of secondary school.
• Training as a caregiver is an asset but not a mandatory requirement.
• Willing to work in the rural community of Zurich, Ontario.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must have basic communication skills in English.
• The ability to read, write and speak the Punjabi language will be an asset.
• Attention to detail in all areas of work.
• Reliability and strong organization skills.
• Cultural and spiritual sensitivity toward the mother.

Wages: wage $18.00 per hour
Start Date: ASAP
Work Hours: Minimum 35 hours per week; some weekends may be required.
