Job Description:

Full Day Childcare Centre Licensed for care of children 4 months to 12 years of age.

Job duties:
-Develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children
-Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs and taking children to local points of interest, provide opportunities to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity
-Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits
-Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians or supervisor
-Knowledge of Daycare Services Act
-Knowledge of licensing regulations
-Establish guidelines for behaviour
-Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children
-Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children
-Assess the abilities, interests and needs of children and discuss progress or problems with parents and other staff members
-Supervise staff, trainees or volunteers
-Order supplies and equipment
-Maintain daycare equipment and assist in housekeeping and cooking duties
-Attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children

Requirements:
-Education: A college level diploma in early childhood education / A bachelor’s degree in early childhood education is required.
-Experience: Experience an asset
-Valid ECE Classification is required (Level 1 – Level 3)
-Satisfactory criminal record check (including vulnerable sector) is required
-Able to work independently.
-Well developed interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication.
-Valid First Aid certificate

Early Childhood Educator Assistant Skills
Discuss progress and problems of children at staff meetings; Bathe, diaper and feed infants and toddlers; Support early childhood educators in carrying out programs that promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children; Engage children in activities by telling stories, teaching songs and preparing crafts; Prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods; Submit written observations on children to early childhood educators or supervisors

Additional Skills
Supervise staff, trainees or volunteers; Order supplies and equipment; Maintain daycare equipment and assist in housekeeping and cooking duties; Assist early childhood educators or supervisors in keeping records; Attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children; Plan and organize activities for school-age children in child-care programs before and after regular school hours; Supervise and co-ordinate activities of other early childhood educators and early childhood educator assistants

Salary:
$15 – $19 CAD hourly, 42.5 hours per week. Employee must be able to work between 08:00am and 4:00pm (Monday – Friday) with a 1/2 hour unpaid lunch break.
