Description:
St. Brigid’s Dairy Ltd. is looking to fill in 3 full-time open positions of dairy herdsmen. We are a dairy farm operation located in Brussels, Ontario milking and pasturing 400 organic cows as well as growing organic crops to feed the cows. We are looking for responsible and mature individuals who have passion for working with animals, experience in the dairy industry and interested in long-term employment.
Wages and working conditions:
• Wage: $CAD 17.00 to 18.00 per hour depending on experience
• Working hours: the hours will vary between 30 to 60 hours per week, due to the nature of dairy farming the job will include on call, early morning, evening and weekends flexible hours.
• Health benefits: employees will be covered by Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB), no additional private health benefits will be provided.

Qualifications and requirements:
• Education: College certificate or other specialized training in animal care or agriculture
• Work Experience: minimum 2 years’ experience in the dairy industry within the last 5 years
• Must have experience working with and handling cattle and young stock
• Experience in organic farming is preferred but not required
• Must be familiar with the following equipment: tractors, storage and silage system, feeding and watering system, milking systems, manure handling and storage system
• Must be physically fit, be able to lift 50+lbs
• Must be willing to work early mornings, night shifts and weekends, when required
Responsibilities:
• Monitor, recognize and treat livestock health problems ( organic basis)
• Assist with calving
• Develop and balance feed ration
• Artificial insemination
• Keep livestock records
• Follow safety and bio-security procedures
• Operate farm equipment, assist with equipment maintenance
• Perform general farm duties as milking, feeding and other daily farm chores
