Job Summary: We are looking for one (1) Chef who will be responsible for overseeing and directing our kitchen operations and ensuring that our specialty Swiss Chalet dishes are prepared and cooked within an authentic and timely manner. The right candidate will provide hands-on culinary skill to deliver high quality food and service to our customers in a fast-paced environment.
Job Responsibilities:
- Plan, direct, and execute food preparation and cooking according to customer needs;
- Oversee, advise, and provide training to other cooks to ensure that high standard is maintained for the kitchen’s cooking techniques, dish preparation and garnishing procedures;
- Prepare and cook complete Swiss Chalet meals, including roast beef dinners, rotisserie chicken stir-fry, and assorted appetizers using Swiss Chalet specialty ingredients and recipes;
- Work with ingredients such as meats, vegetables, and rice and use specialty cooking equipment;
- Adapt dishes for customers with specialty diets, allergies, and intolerances;
- Ensure consistent and high-quality food preparation and presentation according to Swiss Chalet’s restaurant standards;
- Regularly track, check, and organize restaurant inventory to ensure that food and kitchen supplies are adequately stocked;
- Place orders with vendors for ingredients and cooking supplies when necessary;
- Ensure proper food handling procedures are followed during the cooking process and that all food products are safely stored;
- Purchase kitchen equipment and arranging for repairs when necessary;
- Ensure kitchen and storage areas are maintained and cleaned according to health and safety standards; and
- Other duties as required.
Minimum Skills Requirements:
- Partial completion of secondary school is required;
- At least one (1) year of experience as a Chef is required;
- Cook trade certification or equivalent credentials, training and experience is required.
- Certification from the Ontario College of Trades is not required.
- Fluency in verbal English is required;
- Must be dependable, reliable, and capable of working in a fast-paced environment;
- Must have a professional attitude and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
