Aegis Earth Inc. is hiring a full-time, permanent Agricultural Specialist. Aegis Earth is an organization working to help humanity mitigate and survive the results of the climate crisis by aligning plans for community action around sustainable food production. This position is responsible for evaluating sustainable food production options with the goal of determining the most viable solutions for a community’s conditions and resources.
This position has the following mandatory requirements. A candidate must be able to:
Research: Develop requirements for understanding the challenges of food crop production for specific geographic regions, based on population, climate and locally available resources. Conduct research based on these requirements to gather data about current and future conditions for food crop production in specific communities.
Analysis: Review compiled data to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to food crop production in specific communities. Draw insights from compiled data to provide recommendations for alternatives to food crop production that meet a community’s profile and identified challenges.
Consultation: Provide findings from the research and analysis in reports and presentations, according to the guidelines provided for each community. Deliver findings to diverse audiences, from subject matter experts to community residents, through online or in-person formats. Evaluate new alternatives to food crop production and provide recommendations to the CEO to help determine partner organizations for food crop solutions.
Experiment: Provide hands-on crop management to support any prototypes, pilot programs or other experiments with potential food crop solutions.
Location: the candidate must be located or willing to relocate to Pemberton, BC.
The ideal candidate will also provide these skills and attributes:
Required: Fully fluent or native English speaker
Required: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in agronomy, agricultural science or related study with a focus on the impacts of climate change
Solid understanding of alternatives for food crop production and concepts for local, farm-to-market programs
Well-versed in the challenges and urgency of responding to the climate crisis
Excellent communicator, including grammatically solid, clear writing
Deep sense of curiosity and great appreciation for detailComfortable speaking and representing the company to external contacts
Proactive in asking for requirements clarifications and getting agreement on points of decision
Excellent math and statistics skills
Conscientious, self-driven work ethic and team player
A perspective gained through international farming experience
At least 12 month experience in produce production in zone 8
At least 12 months of farm management experience
